Parametric Optimization of Laser Conduction Welding between Stainless Steel 316 and Polyethylene Terephthalate Using Taguchi Method

A pulsed Nd:YAG laser with a fiber optic delivery system was used to accomplish dissimilar joining of 316 stainless steel (SUS316) polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Laser Conduction Welding (LCW) applied as welding technique achieve lap metal/polymer joint by applying the from metal side. The heat transferred layer polymer layer, which caused melting and then solidifying at interface. effect three parameters, energy density, pulse duration, speed, on force, studied discussed. To measure force tensile shear test conducted. Furthermore, Taguchi method design experiment optimize parameters designing an orthogonal L9 matrix. signal-to-noise ratio each trial calculated plotted. best that gave highest were achieved. maximum obtained 525 N 250 J/cm2 15 ms 20 mm/min speed. Finally, comparison between weakest strongest joints carried out show difference optimal any other set parameters.
